This week in Phonics the children have continued to read words with digraphs in. The children have re-capped tricky words and read sentences as a class.
The Phonics scheme that we use as a school is Little Wandle. For any additional information please visit the website and find the ‘for parents’ tab: https://www.littlewandlelettersandsounds.org.uk/resources/for-parents/
In Literacy, the children listened to our new story ‘What the ladybird heard’ by Julia Donaldson. For the next few weeks, the children will be focusing on Julia Donaldson books and looking at how she incorporates rhyme, alliteration, rhythm and fun in all her stories. The children took their own ladybird outdoors and wrote down their own stories of what the ladybird heard while being in our school. We worked hard to write sentences with finger spaces, full stops and capital letters.
In Maths this week, we have been focusing on making 9. The children used the whole-part-part model to make 9 using counters and cubes. We then made number sentences to show our working out and wrote the mathematical symbols alongside this.
In Project this week the children have continued their topic on ‘Animal Kingdom’. The children learnt all about ‘Africa’ and how it compares to where we live in the UK. We listened to the story ‘Handa’s surprise’. The children made their own beautiful African sunset picture.
Have a lovely weekend,

In Literacy, the children listened to our new story ‘Giraffes can’t dance’. The children identified alliteration in the story and made up their own alliteration phrases and then put these alliterative phrases into their own sentences.
In Maths this week, we have been counting and building numbers to 30. The children looked at the patterns of numbers and how numbers have tens or 2 tens in the number and identifying how many ones in a number. The children used Base 10 equipment to build numbers between 10 and 30.
In Project this week the children have continued their topic on ‘Animal Kingdom’. The children learnt all about habitats and what a habitat is. The children made their own habitat box in small groups.

In Maths this week, we have been learning all about ‘halving’ and odd and even numbers. The children practiced counting in 2s to 10.
In Project this week the children started their new topic on ‘Animal Kingdom’. We made a poster on how we will be safe on our school zoo trip. The children had lots of fun at the zoo trip- all photos will be uploaded onto Tapestry. The children reflected on their trip and made an observational drawing from their zoo trip.
