Hertfordshire School Games Tennis Festival
Some of our pupils from year 3 and 4 participated in the school games celebration event at Oaklands college and this year's theme was centred around the Olympics.
During the opening ceremony, we had the privilege of hearing from various athletes who shared their stories and inspired the next generation.
We had the opportunity to meet Olympic sprinter Harry Aikines-Aryeetey also known as 'Nitro' from the gladiators and even got his autograph!
Following the opening ceremony, we took part in the tennis festival where we learnt new skills and enjoyed fun games. At the end of the festival, there was an award presentation where the children were recognized for their passion and teamwork. Well done!

Year 5&6 Boys Football Vs St Marys @Away
For this round of the Maynard Cup, we played St Marys. It was a physical game but we pushed through it. Jadie scored our first goal from Harry’s amazing corner. Then, Noah played a great long ball to Rome, who banged it into the top corner! In second half, Harry scored a long range goal and then right at the end, Jadie scored his second of the game. Our defence was solid and everyone played a great game. We ended up winning 4 nil and move onto the semi-finals against De Havilland.
By Harry and Alfie.

Year 5&6 Girls Football Vs Green Lanes @Away
We travelled to Green Lanes this afternoon for our last game in the Hatfield Schools Girls' League. In another entertaining game, we managed to secure our 5th win in league to secure top position. We await for everyone to play their final fixtures before the Easter deadline.
After a goal mouth scramble, the girls' managed to clear the ball towards the half way line. Kayleigh ran onto the ball from our defending half and she burst through their defence. She took a quick shot which found it's way into the bottom left hand corner. 0 - 1 at half time.
Willow made a lovely pass towards Kayleigh on the right wing. Tilly found space and made an excellent loud call from the left side. Kayleigh switched the ball with a pin-point pass for Tilly to be 1v1 with the goalkeeper. Amazing football - well done girls!
0 - 2 now with Green Lanes looking to score. Unfortunately, they got one back with less than a minute to play. We eventually held on to the win. Both teams played some lovely passing football. Well done everyone.
Friday 2nd February 2024
Year 5&6 Girls Football Vs De Havilland @Away
What a game!!
On a lovely afternoon, our girls' football team travelled to our close friends from De Havilland Primary School. The girls' went into the game top of the league and set out to show how far they have developed and improved since their first match against our hosts. Our starting formation was set up to defend like champions. 2-1-3. Very unusual for a 7v7 match but highly effective against a well organised opposition.
Unfortunately, we conceded within the first 3 minutes as De Havilland's talented midfielder scored a lovely goal from outside the box. Our opposition continued the pressure until half time. The girls' really defended bravely and did not panic since the opening goal.
The second half was slightly different as we saw more energy and movement in midfield, which caused the hosts some problems. Tilly had a couple of speedy runs at goal but fired wide due to their relentless pressure. Our goalkeeper was outstanding today as she made countless saves! As mentioned above Cleo, Darcy, Willow and Lamar defended like real champions. They really impressed everyone in attendance! Kayleigh and Vera continued to use their athletic capabilities by showing outstanding stamina throughout the whole game - very impressive performance.
The game finished 1 - 0 to De Havilland but a brilliant performance from both teams. We go again on Monday as we travel to Green Lanes for our final league match. Good luck girls!

Year 5&6 Boys Football Vs Green Lanes @Away
This afternoon, we returned to league action after the winter break.
Mr Nicholls led the warm up and team talk which had an inspired response from the boys'. I believe this was our best passing performance with everyone working well as a team. Communication was super loud and effective throughout the whole match. Absolutely brilliant - well done boys.
A wonderful shot from Noah in the first half found it's way into the bottom right hand corner. Noah used his speed down the left wing, cut back on his foot and smashed it! 0 - 1 to the visitors.
We continued to press as a team in the second half with Jadie making it 0 - 2. Non-stop tackling and pressure led to the eventually falling to his right foot. Jadie was able to calmly pass the ball into the corner of the goal. A lovely finish. Our hosts managed to score a late goal which enabled a tense finish for the visitors. The game finished 1 - 2 in a very even contest. Congratulations to both teams.
Next week we travel to St Philip Howard for our penultimate fixture in the Hatfield Primary Schools League
Monday 29th January 2024
Year 5 Tag Rugby Tournament
8 children from Year 5 travelled to Onslow St. Audrey's School for a highly competitive tag rugby competition. Our children competed well against other schools such as: Birchwood Avenue, De Havilland, Howe Dell and St. Philip Howard. The children played 5 matches in total. They won 3, drew 1 and lost their final match. Congratulations to all our Year 5 athletes who demonstrated their dodging skills and speed throughout the whole morning.
A massive thank you to Onslow for hosting such a wonderful event. Everyone had an amazing time.
We look forward to our next event :-)

HCFS 3 - 0 Hadley Wood (Rome x3)
HCFS 0 - 1 Cranborne
HCFS 0 - 0 Wroxham
We played Ladbrooke in the 3rd Vs 4th placed game. Goals from Rome x 2 and Kenan was enough to secure the bronze medals.
Congratulations to Cranborne for winning the competition. A massive thank you to Mr Palmer at Challenge Sport and Education for hosting a brilliant tournament. Everyone had a lovely time.

This morning we travelled to Hatfield Leisure Centre to compete against local schools in an indoor cricket festival. We competed against tough opposition from Oak View, Howe Dell, St Philip Howard and De Havilland. The children had a brilliant time and thoroughly enjoyed the striking and fielding activity.
We would like to thank Mr Sritharan at Onslow School for hosting such a great event. Also, a massive thank you to their Year 10 Sport Captains for officiating.

Year 4 Speed Stacking Festival
This morning, 7 children from Year 4 travelled to Onslow School for a speed stacking competition. The children competed in various stacking combinations such as: 3-3-3 and 3-6-3. They also competed as individuals, boys teams, girls teams and mixed (whole group for overall time). It is safe to save that this event was amazing and we would like to thank Mr Sritharan from Onslow School for hosting a couple of schools from the community.
Congratulations to overall winners from Oak View who were super fast throughout.
We have now finished our sporting activities for 2023. A massive thank you to everyone for a wonderful term full of competition, happiness and excitement.
Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year.

Year 5&6 Boys and Girls Football Tournaments @HarvestersFC
Today, we hosted our first football tournaments for the community at Harvesters FC. Schools from Hatfield, Potters Bar and St Albans competed for the cup in both boys and girls competitions.
Harvesters Football Club in Smallford, St Albans kindly offered their amazing all weather surface for the children to enjoy some physical activity. We would like to thank you Harvesters FC for their kindness.
The girls' tournament took place in the morning. An incredibly cold start meant the children needed to warm up correctly before the start. We played Little Heath in the first game and won 2-1. Wroxham in the second game. This finished 2-0 to HCFS. We came across Cuffley (the tournament winners) in our 3rd and final league game before the knockouts. We faced Little Heath again the semi final and lost 2-0.
Congratulations to Cuffley for winning the girls tournament.
The boys tournament was slightly warmer. Around 4 degrees. The children played some lovely passing football, but were unable to convert their chances on the smaller pitch. However, we witnessed some absolute crackers! Well done to the boys. Especially as some of our boys were away competing against Championship clubs. We finished 3rd overall which is a brilliant achievement.
Congratulations to Wroxham for winning the boys' tournament.
Thursday 30th November 2023
Year 5&6 Boys Football Vs Birchwood Avenue @Away
An improved performance from the boys this afternoon.
Today we played Birchwood Avenue in our final league game before the New Year.
The boys started quickly and kept the ball in the oppositions half for the majority of the 15 minutes. A couple of awesome corners from Leo's left boot wasn't enough for a HCFS attacker to convert. Birchwood had two fast forwards and broke quickly against Alfie, Charlie and Mikhail. They defended incredibly well with Charlie securing our 'Player of the Match' award for the first half. In truth, it was difficult to pass the ball due to the weather conditions.
After a brief team talk, the boys' set out to dominate the second half away from home. Our midfield consisted of Harry, David and Noah with Cooper playing up front. From the start, HCFS played some lovely passing football. We stopped kicking the ball and started to pass with purpose. Our goal came from Harry playing right midfield who struck the ball sweetly to beat their keeper. It actually bounced in front of their goalkeeper, which can be an absolutely nightmare to deal with.
0 - 1 and the visitors looked in control of the match. However, we conceded again within the last minute by leaving a Birchwood player available in the box. An error which could've been avoided through better observation and team communication. With this in mind, a lot of positives can be taken from this fixture. Well done team.
The game finished 1-1.
Congratulations to Charlie and Harry who won our 'Player of the Match' awards.
Tomorrow, HCFS are hosting a tournament at Harvesters Football Club. Check back here for photos and a blog update. Thank you :-)

Year 5&6 Girls Football Vs Birchwood Avenue @Away
This afternoon our girls' travelled to Birchwood Avenue to play their 4th game in the HSA Girls' Football League. We started strong, securing the ball in midfield, with Tilly driving the ball down the right wing. However, I fast counter attack meant we conceded within the first 2 minutes. The girls' did not panic and continued to pass, dribble and encourage their way to the oppositions goal. Two quick goals from Tilly made it 1 - 2. Kayleigh added a 3rd before half time from a well taken corner which dissected the Birchwood defence. Kayleigh smashed the ball low and hard with her left foot. Cracking goal!
Two more goals from Tilly and Kayleigh secured their 4th win of the season. Well done :-). Sienna, Cleo, Darcy, Willow and Lamar were just awesome in defence. Vera showed us her athletic capabilities by running back from midfield to help defend. A great team effort :-)
Congratulations to Darcy who won our 'Player of the Match' award.
Tuesday 21st November 2023
Year 5&6 Boys Football Vs Oak View @Away
Great game this afternoon against Oak View. Oak View scored first, passing the ball across our goal to finish an easy 'tap in'. A great team move from Oak View. It finished 1 - 0 at half time to the hosts who completely out passed our HCFS side. In truth, we couldn't clear our lines and gain any momentum going forward. However, the second half was a complete contrast.
We pressed high and kept the ball in the hosts half for the first 10 minutes. David scored by tackling the goalkeeper and passed into an empty net. Leo scored moments later as he smashed the ball across the goal with a left foot rocket. 1 - 2 to HCFS as we looked for a 3rd goal. However, in the last 5 minutes, Oak View scored two goals to secure the 3 points. An unlucky result for our side. We play again next week against Birchwood Avenue. Thank you to the parents who supported our team :-).
Tuesday 21st November 2023
Year 3&4 Mixed Multi-Sports Festival @Furzefield (Potters Bar)
This morning we travelled to Potters Bar to compete in a multi-sports competition held by Challenge Sport and Education. Our children within year 3&4 competed in events such as: speed bounce, football dribbling, long jump, tennis, and ultimate frisbee. Conditions were dry but super cold for the children and travelling supporters. However, we all braved the cold and managed to finish 2nd out of 10 schools from Potters Bar and the surrounding areas. An amazing achievement from our children. The majority were competing in their first event for HCFS - well done everyone :-).
We would like to thank Mr Palmer for organising another wonderful competition. Also, congratulations to all the schools taking part. Well done to Wroxham for winning the event. Here are some photos....
Thursday 16th November 2023
Year 5&6 Girls Football Vs St Philip Howard @Away
Our girls football team were in action again this afternoon. This time we made the very short trip to St Philip Howard. The pitches have now become incredibly muddy and heavy which is actually 'energy zapping' for all the children.
0 - 2 to HCFS in the first half with two lovely goals from our captain, Kayleigh. St Philip Howard managed to score late in the second half to set up an exciting finish. The team defended like champions and managed to secure the points. Well done girls :-). We would all like to thank Mr Francis for refereeing our match this afternoon.
At the moment, the girls do not have a scheduled match next week (this may change). However, the week after is super busy (WC 27/11/23). Please check the fixtures section....
Thursday 16th November 2023
Year 5&6 Boys Football Vs De Havilland @Away
The year 5 and 6 boys football team had a tough day in the office! They played really well against a strong De Havilland side, however we couldn't secure the 3 points.
It was a physical game and the boys did some fantastic tackling. Cooper scored a brilliant long range free kick and all the boys should be proud of their efforts.
The boys will be in action next as they look to secure their 2nd win of the season against Oak View. This game will be played on Tuesday 21st November 2023 @Away. Information has been emailed to families :-)

TAP Event - Multi Sports for Year 5&6
We had a super fun afternoon at Hatfield Sports Centre completing a range of different sporting activities hosted by the sports team at Onslow St Audrey's. The children got to try their hand at archery, golf, boccia, curling and bowling amongst a few other activities aswell. They were an absolute credit to HCFS by fully participating, getting stuck in, having huge smiles on their faces for the duration and having the most impeccable manners throughout the whole event. Mr Owers and Mrs Hobson really enjoyed accompanying them to this event and were proud of them achievements.
Special congratulations goes to Hayden who was highlighted as one of the 'stars of the day' and to Liberty who was awarded the team pineapple!
Monday 13th November 2023
Year 5&6 Girls Football Vs Countess Anne @Away
We travelled to Countess Anne this afternoon to play our second fixture in the Hatfield Schools Girls' Football League. In an exciting game, HCFS managed to secure the 3 points with Tilly scoring two goals. We had the majority of possession in the first 15 minutes as we continued to pass and dribble into spaces. Tilly managed to curl the ball around their goalkeeper from a corner kick. 0 - 1 at half time to HCFS.
The second half was completely different as we really struggled to get the ball close to their goal. Countess Anne put countless pressure on us with Willow, Cleo, Lamar, Darcy and Sienna making important blocks, tackles and saves. Our defenders also played some lovely passes into midfield. Our second goal came from a fast counter attack with Kayleigh winning the ball in midfielder from a strong tackle. She passed the ball out towards the right wing where Tilly received the ball and drove powerfully. Tilly smashed the ball across the goal to make it 0 - 2. This was completely against the run of play. A few moments later, Countess Anne burst through midfield and hit a low, powerful shot into the corner. 1 - 2 with 3 minutes left to play. HCFS managed to hold on to the win with everyone behind the ball defending as a team.
We go again on Thursday as we travel to St Philip Howard in our 3rd league match. The boys face tough opposition from De Havilland @away.
Minute's Silence for Remembrance Sunday
Thursday 9th November 2023
Year 5&6 Girls Football Vs Oak View @Away
Wow! What a game of football. We walked over to Oak View this afternoon for our first game in the Hatfield Primary Schools Girls' Football League. We managed to win 1 - 2 with two excellent goals from Tilly. Her first goal was an absolute rocket that nearly broke the goal. 1 - 1 at half time with both teams pushing to secure the 3 points. It really was end to end football in the last 15 minutes as both teams played lovely passing football. However, it was HCFS scoring towards the end of the match with Tilly bursting through midfield to slot it past Oak View's goalkeeper.
We played like giants again with Sienna, Darcy, Cleo and our 'Player of the Match' Willow making crucial tackles and blocks throughout the match. This is Willows best performance to date in HCFS colours - well done :-). Vera, Kayleigh, Lamar and our second 'Player of the Match' Tilly did not stop running the whole match and continued to press their defence and midfield. We have two matches next week. Monday against Countess Anne and Thursday against St Philip Howard. The boys will also be travelling to De Havilland on Thursday for their 3rd league game.
Well done everyone :-)
Tuesday 7th November 2023
Year 5&6 Boys Football Vs Countess Anne @Away
I am beyond proud of their performance today against a well organised Countess Anne side. We went into the game full of confidence from our result last week against St Mary's. However, we conceded a counter attacking goal towards the end of the first half which saw the hosts win 1 - 0.
It was a very entertaining game with both teams creating decent chances at goal. Some lovely passes in midfield from Leo, Harry, Cooper and Noah was a real highlight to watch. Jadie and David were energetic upfront and continued to find space. Charlie and our captain Alfie defended like giants and made countless blocks and passed the ball calmly into midfield. Mikhail was brilliant in goal too on debut for our 'A Team'. Well done boys :-)
Friday 3rd November 2023
KS2 Cross Country Event at De Havilland
On Friday our elite cross country runners took part in the annual event held at De Havilland School. The weather was incredibly kind to us, however the amount of rain during the week meant a slow and heavy event on the field. This really slowed the athletes down into each corner. With this in mind, it was a highly competitive morning with the overall scoring between schools being very close. We finished 4th overall and only missed out on 3rd place by 2 points. Congratulations to all our runners and a massive thank you to De Hav for hosting another great festival.
Thursday 2nd November 2023
Year 5&6 Girls Football Vs De Havilland @Away
Our first official game for the girls' this afternoon against tournament winners, De Havilland. We knew it was always going to be a tough game, however the girls' were up for the challenge.
The weather was terrible as it continued to rain throughout the match ensuring a slower paced game on the heavy pitch. Our hosts played some lovely football and we were unlucky to concede a couple of goals early on in the first half. As the game developed Tilly, Vera and Kayleigh continued to make some lovely runs down the wings but we couldn't trouble their goalkeeper. Our midfield and defensive line of Cleo, Darcy, Cassandra and Willow with Sienna in goal, never gave up and they should be incredible proud of their performance in the awful conditions.
Our 'Player of the Match' award went to Cleo who was outstanding throughout the whole game making strong tackles in defence. Real improvement shown here - well done :-)
Thank you to the parents for their wonderful support today :-). We look forward to another game next week against Oak View @Away.
Wednesday 1st November 2023
Year 6 Mixed Table Tennis Tournament @Onslow School
We travelled to Onslow School this afternoon for a table tennis tournament. Everyone had an amazing time and for the majority of children, it was something completely new! The girls' played Onslow's Year 7s athletes and managed to win their games :-). Well done girls! The boys faced tough opposition from Onslow and narrowly missed out on 1st place by a few points. Well done boys. Here are some action shots from the afternoon.....
Monday 30th October 2023
Year 5&6 Boys' Football Vs St Mary's School @Away
What a game this afternoon - thank you to everyone that supported the team :-). We are all super proud of their performance against a well drilled defensive side from St Mary's. Congratulations to both sides as it was a great game to watch.
We conceded early during the first half from a small communicational error. However, we did not panic and continued to play some lovely passes in the opposing half. Countless shots were recorded at the St Mary's goalkeeper but we just couldn't score. We finally managed to score two very late goals from Leo to win our first match in the Hatfield Schools League. Next week we travel to Countess Anne (7th November 2023).
Thursday 19th October 2023
Year 5 & 6 Girls Football Tournament
A wonderful afternoon again at De Havilland Primary School. This time it was the girls' annual football tournament. The girls' were amazing and showed a much improved performance since their last tournament before the Summer. In the group stages, we played 4 matches. We won 2, drew 1 and lost 1 against Oak View. 4 goals for Tilly and one goal for Kayleigh secured our spot in the Semi Finals. We lost 1 - 0 to the hosts in a closely fought fixture. The ball was mainly played in the opposing half however, they caught us on a close counter attack. They should all be proud of their performances and we look to go one step further in the next competition. Well done everyone.
Thursday 12th October 2023
Year 5 & 6 Boys Football Tournament
This afternoon we made the short distance to local rivals, De Havilland for a boys football tournament. An impressive group stage ensured our status as group winners. We played 4 games, won 2 and drew 2. Scoring 6 goals and not conceding at all. We faced second placed side in group 1, Countess Anne in the Semi Final. Both teams had chances but was unable to convert. We eventually won on penalties to make the Final. In the second Semi Final, De Havilland A beat De Havilland B. In the Final, De Havilland put a lot of pressure on us and in truth, we struggled to get the ball into the opposing half. However, we defended like giants and I am so proud of the children for their hard work rate and excellent team work. Still 0 - 0 after extra time which meant the title would be decided on a lottery. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be our day with the hosts scoring the last penalty with a thunderous strike. Congratulations to De Havilland for winning and thank you for hosting a wonderful tournament.
Monday 9th October 2023
Year 5 & 6 Basketball Tournament
In a highly competitive basketball tournament held at Onlow St Audrey's, our children in Year 6 improved as the tournament progressed. We played against schools from De Havilland, St Philip Howard and Oak View. Only two schools could progress to the Welwyn and Hatfield event and we narrowly missed out by a few points. Amazing team work shown throughout and we cannot wait until the next tournament :-)
Tuesday 3rd October 2023
Year 5 & 6 Cross Country - Qualified Event
Our children that qualified for the District cross country event travelled to Stanborough Lakes to compete against all the elite runners from Welwyn and Hatfield. The 2k race was brilliant and I am so proud of our children that qualified. Well done everyone. All 20 children had the opportunity to try out the 5 different stations before they competed for points. Well done to everyone involved. Massive thank you to our parents for transporting the children over :-)
Tuesday 26th September 2023
Year 5 & 6 Cross Country
We had a wonderful morning at Onslow St. Audrey's School competing in the local cross country event. The weather was perfect for some quick times/placings. Our children managed to win 3 out of the 4 races which was an incredible achievement. From this, we had a number of children that qualified for the District event held at Stanborough Lakes. You should all be proud of your times :-). We have another local event in November.
