Science at HCFS

Our Science curriculum aims to provide the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of biology, physics and chemistry. Children need to be taught essential aspects of knowledge, methods, processes and uses of Science within our modern society.

Science is taught within the enrichment curriculum but as a core subject and we believe it is vital for children to value the experiences through first hand investigation. The subject is divided into the different domains of Science with scientific skills and understanding weaving through the knowledge base the children are building up.

Mastery in Science

Within our science lessons, we encourage children to explain their thinking based on their scientific understanding through the use of mastery glasses. See below some of the different questions we may pose to the children using the mastery approach.
