Geography at HCFS

At HCFS we aim for children to develop a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. The curriculum is designed to equip all children with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments. An understanding of human and physical processes is explored and as children progress, a deeper understanding of the interaction between these is further developed.

Geography is implemented through our project lessons. The teaching of Geography is spread across the academic year or key stage.  The school uses a 2 year rolling programme where all of the Geography National Curriculum objectives are taught throughout different projects within a key stage.

Trip and the use of visitors are used to enhance and develop the experiences with the topics the children are learning.

We hope that through the Geography taught at HCFS the children will

  • gain a good understanding of the areas of geography that are taught.
  • have an interest in the wider world and have an interest in different aspects of geography.
  • develop a good understanding of the local area in which they live.
  • develop a love and a keen interest in the areas they are learning about and be able to use this knowledge within the wider world.
