Mathematics at HCFS
At HCFS we aim for children to become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over time, for pupils to develop conceptual understanding. We intend for children to be able to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately. Within reasoning we wish for children to justify and prove using mathematical language.
Learning strands are taught across set periods of time with opportunities for pupils to explore concepts within discrete learning opportunities (core week) and then apply their learning within problem solving opportunities (enrichment week). Concepts are then practiced and rehearsed during fluency sessions at least 3 times per week.
