Notices:
Please can any spare junk modelling be provided to early years for our Project learning next week- Many thanks.
Learning:
The children have now learnt all of the Phase 2 and Phase 3 phonemes and graphemes for this school year. Over the next few months we will be developing our reading and writing ability when using these sounds, and practising tricky words.
This week the children have been revising specific Phase 3 sounds and practicing blending using these sounds. We have been reading words that end in ing and compound words.
The Phonics scheme that we use as a school is Little Wandle. For any additional information please visit the website and find the ‘for parents’ tab: https://www.littlewandlelettersandsounds.org.uk/resources/for-parents/
In Literacy this week, we have started to look at a new story called ‘The Rainbow Fish’. The children recapped their learning on adjectives and thought of new adjectives to describe ‘The Rainbow fish’. We wrote a sentence to describe the fish ensuring we remembered full stops, capital letters and finger spaces.
In Maths this week, we have been ‘telling the time’. The children all made their own clock and we learnt about ‘o’clock’ times.
In Project this week the children have been learning all about ‘Travelling by Air’. We went on an imaginary aeroplane and travelled to different environments – Africa and Antarctica! Once we travelled to these environments we looked at the similarities and differences to these environments to where we live in the UK. The children made their own passports and drew different transportations in different environments.
Have a lovely weekend,

In Literacy this week, we have continued exploring the story ‘Elmer’. We discussed how ‘Elmer’ is special and unique. The children created their own unique animal character. We then made a character passport writing down a name, habitat, what our character looks like and how it makes other’s laugh.
In Maths this week, we have been ordering the days of the week and sequencing familiar events in our day. The children ordered the story ‘Goldilocks and the 3 bears’. We used visual cards to order our day and what we do in the morning/afternoon and evening.
In Project this week the children have been learning all about ‘Travelling by foot’. The children used their senses to describe what they see, feel and hear when outside. We compared the outdoors from Autumn to Spring and made our own Spring pictures.
In our child-initiated-learning (CIL) time the children have been drawing observational drawings of Daffodils , making playdoh pizzas in Hedgehogs and using a light box to count objects and match the numerals in Badgers.

In Literacy this week, we have started looking at a new story called ‘Elmer’. The children have been listening to the story and discussing how Elmer the elephant is special. We thought about ourselves and how we are all special in our own ways. The children wrote a sentence about themselves thinking about how they are special. We focused on using finger spaces, full stops and capital letters in our writing.
In Maths this week, we have been looking at the words ‘equal’ and ‘unequal’. The children have been comparing 2 groups of items and identifying if they are equal or unequal. We have been sharing farm animals equally into 2 groups and writing double number sentences.
In Project this week the children have been learning about Space! We listened to the story ‘Aliens love underpants’. The children discovered a spaceship in our outdoor area and discovered a letter sent by an Alien named ‘Zag’. The children enjoyed making their own Alien pictures and thinking of questions to ask Zag.
In our child-initiated-learning (CIL) time the children have been practicing writing capital letters in Rabbits class, playing with jungle animals in Hedgehogs and creating a spaceship role play area in Badgers.
