Spring 2, Week 6 Parent Blog.
English- Students have been learning all about information text, titles and subheadings.
Children have written up some great facts about Bats.
Well done Year 1.
Maths- This week children have being learning about place value, they used resources to help them work out ten’s and ones’ in the correct value.
Project- This week the students have been focussing on finishing off their dinosaur sculptures.
Year 1 teachers wish you a well-deserved Half term break and see you all soon for Summer one term.

Spring 2, Week 5 Parent Blog.
English- Students have had lots of practice learning about adjective, and verbs. They aslo learned about facts about Bats-
They have done some lovely writing on fact, and looking at titles, introduction and subheadings we have seen lovely writing. Well done Year 1.
Maths- this week has been fun in maths learning all Capacity, and volume. Children experimented with water in the class, finding the volume and capacity what is more and less.
Project- This week the students have been focussing on building their dinosaurs out of junk modelling. First the designed how they wanted their dinosaur to look like. Then used all their learning skills in our project, by rolling paper, bending, twisting curling. To create and design their 3D dinosaur.
Science- In science year 1, looked closely at real flowers with a magnified glass. They looked at the roots, petals, and stem. They pulled the flower apart to get a better look. They then made their own flower and labelled the flower parts.
Year 1 had a marvellous day on their trip this linked in nicely with our project.
Well done year 1 and thank you for be so good on the trip.

English- Checkpoints
Maths- Checkpoints
Year 1, have really worked extremely hard on their checkpoints this week.
We are very proud of each and every one of them

Project- This week the students have been focussing on 3D art, by, rolling paper. They have learned different ways to roll paper in a 3D form. They designed their own quilling art, to make a 3D effect.
Science- Students have enjoyed they used air dough to sculpture flowers and the pollen- they really enjoyed this lesson as they learned that how the pollen in found in the flower and what job the bumble bee plays the part as collecting the pollen.

Spring 2, Week 3 Parent Blog.
English- students have been learning about the personal pronoun I, they put together some great sentence by using the letter I – as if they were the boat from our Boat story. They have also learned this week the past tense, suffix by adding the “ed” after the word, again they wrote some lovely sentences using the suffix. Children have also been busy learning all about chronological order- as to sequence the story and write sentences, applying capital letter finger space and full stop.
Maths- Students have been learning to recognise and find ¼ of a quantity
and understand that a quarter is one of four equal parts. They also did the same for shape and length, finding the ¼. We must the students really worked hard on this week.
Project- This week the students have been focussing on 3D art, by, folding paper learning. They have learned different ways to fold paper in a 3D form. They created a master piece 3D structure.
Science- Students have enjoyed science this week they looked at various seeds of fruit and vegetables, they learned about chitted potatoes. They looked at some chitted potatoes, and they filled the plant pots with soil to grow their potatoes. They will watch then grow over the duration of this topic.

Spring 2, Week 2 Parent Blog.
English- Students have had lot of fun writing sentences using nouns, adjectives, verbs and expanded noun phrases. They also have been learning about their fives senses and adapting that in their writing this week. We have seen some beautiful sentences, well done year 1.
Maths- Students have been learning to read and write numbers from one to 20 in numerals and word. They also learned to recognise place value in numbers to 20 and identified numbers using objects and pictorial representations.
They were encouraged to use the math vocabulary language like equal to, more than, less than, most, least.
Project- This week the students have been focussing on 3D art, by, folding paper learning. They have learned different ways to fold paper in a 3D form, concertina curve zig-zag, they will be using these techniques later in project to structure a dinosaur with junk modelling.
Science- Students have enjoyed this week they looked at some imagines of well-kept gardens and discussed what they might be growing in their garden such as fruit and vegetables. They then grew their own pea pod bean in a grow bag, by following instructions and then they predicted what might happen to their bean over time. The children then did a detailed drawing of their bean in its bag.
World Book Day – well what a great fun this was! children all looked super spectacular in their costumes. They had a fun packed day in their own classrooms focussed all around world book day.

Spring 2, Week 1 Parent Blog.
English- Students have being learning about adjectives, verbs and predictions. They have been busy writing sentences using their own predations about a small stories. They also have been working hard to remember their capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
Maths- Students have been learning about sequencing days of the week and the months. They have also explored time, the children have played ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf’ but by using clocks to show o’clock and half past the hour. We will be looking at applying this knowledge more next week, drawing the hands of the clock to show a time and reading different times.
We started our new topic in Project ‘Dinosaur Planet’. (Art based) This week the students have been focussing on 3D art, by, rolling and twirling up various cards and paper. Students then designed their 3D dinosaur city together by drawing it in their sketch books, once they were happy with their design they then glued their 3D city together.
Science- Year 1 topic is what’s growing in your garden, Student have enjoyed this week they have had the opportunity to learn about various fruits and vegetables. They have had hands-on experiences which, included examining different types of fruits and vegetables when they are cut up. They also tasted and explored flavours’ and textures of these healthy foods. Finally they draw the fruit and veg. Students also looked closely at plants and flower, learning about how they are grown and then drawing the flower and labelling parts of the flower.
