In English this week the children have been learning all about captions, they have learned that captions are imagines that tell the reader more about what is happening. The children then wrote some caption, of their own looking at some photo imagines, whilst doing this they have been focusing on their capital letter and full stops. This not only allowed children to understand the learning objective but, to bring focus on their punctuation. We had some great writing and lovely monster pictures which they labelled.
In Maths the children have been working on addition and subtraction and facts to 10 and 20. Students have been calculating their answers using number lines, some children made their number line. Students also learned that a number sentence written other way around still gives them the same answer they had great fun learning in Maths.
In Project it has been an interesting eye opener for the children learning all about artefacts, understanding old ancient history things that were still kept in museums. They learning about cultural artefacts. They looked at books from stone ages, 7 wonders of the world, the Viking and famous landmarks. Another super week.

Students have been working hard this week on Addition and Subtraction, leaning facts of 10 and 20. They have had fun- playing addition and subtracting games throughout this week. Using number lines, counting beads and various resources to help calculate their work. Maths Rock star day was a added bonus to enhance their learning!
Project
Year 1 have been rather fascinated learning, about Geoffrey De Havilland, they have learned some interesting facts about him and his once town of Hatfield. Children wrote down some known facts. In English as you are aware last week we have read our story The Storm Whale. This week the children compared the story to other stories such as, The secret black rock, Lost and found and The Storm whale in winter. Students had fun learning about acrostic poems and wrote out marvellous poems.

In Project the children looked at imagines of old transport and modern transport- they compared the differences. They enjoyed the class discussion on this lesson. Children then stuck these imagines in the books and wrote some great sentences to go along with them.
In Science we have looked at properties of materials, such as ‘bendy’, ‘flexible’, ‘rigid’. The children then found objects to sort within their groups. Children had fun drawing a object they found from the class and wrote labels what materials they are made from.

The children have used adjectives, and expanded noun phrases to describe the setting from the book, they had a look at some picture of the storm this helped them to really think about the scene and the event as if it was a reality, this inspired them use their imagination to write lovely sentences.
In Maths the children have been working on sharing and division,
They have been learning about grouping objects to find the calculation of their maths task. They have also continued counting in 2’s 5’s and 10’s. They have been learning arrays again by sharing and grouping and using counting resources to help them along their learning.
In Project the children were extremely keen to learn all about our School HCFS.
They looked at photos of the old school and why it closed down. Children had the pleasure of our member of staff who has been with HCFS since it opened, she came into the classrooms to share and talk about the History behind HCFS. Children were rather curious and asked many questions whilst taking notes.
In Science we have continued with our new project ‘Let’s Build’. The children used magnets. They learned about what magnets repel, they also predicted what they thought a magnet would pick up, after that they experimented using magnets what works best.

In Maths the children have been working on multiplication and division,
They have been counting in 2’s 5’s and 10’s they have been learning sharing and grouping and finding the amount altogether, using another way of counting and arrays. Children have had fun counting on using their multiplication.
In Project the children compared old and new images of Hatfield in their topic ‘Memory Box’. They identified what was the same and what was different, and as a class we discussed how things have changed. They looked at the old and new transport and looked to know what a settlement is and recognise past and present settlements from the local area of they looked at Google earth (Hatfield)
Comparing old and new photos of Hatfield.
Which raised lots of interesting discussions and observations in class.
In Science we have continued with our new project ‘Let’s Build’. The children used materials to make boats to help the gingerbread man cross the river safely. They had to think about each materials properties and predict which material would be the best. We then conducted an experiment to see if their prediction was correct. We made sure it was a ‘fair test’ by putting each boat in the water for the same number of minutes. The children noticed that some materials absorbed the water and others floated at the top.
