At HCFS, geography helps children build a broader understanding of the world and their place within it. Through carefully planned projects, pupils explore a range of locations taking a journey around the world —from their local area to countries such as the USA, Australia, Brazil, and Kenya—developing locational knowledge and place awareness. As they learn about climates, landscapes, and how people live in different parts of the world, children begin to appreciate global diversity and the connections between human and physical geography. Mapping skills, fieldwork, and enquiry-based learning are introduced early and revisited throughout the curriculum. These experiences help pupils build cultural capital by expanding their knowledge of different communities, traditions, and environments. Geography at HCFS encourages children to think about how people interact with the planet, fostering curiosity, empathy and a growing awareness of environmental responsibility.
