This week the children have completed their Phonics end of term assessment. You will find your child’s assessments in their school reading bag. Please have a look and support your child with any gaps they need re-capping.

In Literacy this week, we wrote our full name and made a self-portrait.
In Maths this week, we have been learning all about ‘doubling’. The children made doubles up to 10 and wrote number sentences to represent the doubles.
In Project this week the children have continued their learning on the ‘Circus’. In small groups the children made their own gymnastics routine. All videos and photos will be found on Tapestry.

Learning:
This week the children have been revising specific Phase 3 sounds and practicing blending using these sounds. The children have learnt new tricky words- were, here, little.

In Literacy this week, we looked a short animation called ‘The Boat’. The children wrote sentences describing what they could hear and see in the video. The children added adjectives in their writing ensuring they remembered full stops, capital letters and finger spaces.
In Maths this week, we have been combining two groups to make 7. We made 7 in 4 different ways using cube towers. The children continued to use the part-part-whole model to show how to make 7 and we wrote our own number sentences.
In Project this week the children have continued their new topic ‘Marvellous marks’. The children listened to the story ‘Norman the slug with a silly shell’. The children used clay to mould into slug shape. We decorated CD’s to make a snail shell.

This week the children have been revising specific Phase 3 sounds and practicing blending using these sounds. The children have learnt new tricky words- like, some, come.

In Literacy this week, we have continued to look at the story ‘The Train Ride’. The children re-wrote the story using their own ideas of what they see in their own local area. We re-wrote the story in the same format used in The Train Ride story.
In Maths this week, we have been combining two groups to make 6. We made 6 in 4 different ways using cube towers. The children continued to use the part-part-whole model to show how to make 6 and we wrote our own number sentences.
In Project this week the children have continued their new topic ‘Marvellous marks’. The children learnt all about the artist ‘Jackson Pollock’. We re-created artwork using specific techniques that Jackson Pollock did like flicking, pouring and dripping paint. The children also looked at Rachel Maiden’s artwork and we used marbling ink to make our own marbling art.

In Literacy this week, we have started to look at a new story called ‘The Train Ride’. The children sequenced the story and wrote a sentence to describe what the girl saw in the story. We worked on using finger spaces, capital letters and a full stop in our sentence writing.
In Maths this week, we have been exploring number bonds to 5. The children used counters to explore the different ways to make 5. We showed how to make 5 using a whole-part-part model.
In Project this week the children have been learning all about ‘Colours’. We listened to the story ‘Mix it up’ by Herve Tullet. The children explored mixing different primary colours to make new colours. We also explored adding in black paint and white paint to colours to change the tone of colours. It was great fun!
